The Gift of Chess Hosts 3rd Annual United Nations Games

July 24th, 2026 - New York, NY

The Gift of Chess hosted the 3rd Annual United Nations Games at the UN Global Headquarters in NYC. Taking place in one of the worlds most recognized institutions, where most will never enter the gates, players from across the world competed on chess sets from waste plastic from Kibera Kenya in partnership with Kijii Solutions.

We must stop exporting stories of poverty and despair in exchange for economic opportunity. We must start creating assets of value in our local communities and building incrementally economies based on utility value.

The UN games needed chess sets to play on. Those from Kibera were just perfect to make a check mate and those sets need to be paid for at a fair market price. Not more / not less. But a fair price.

Two-Time Nigerian Women’s Chess Champion Perpetual Ogbiyoyo was the winner of 2026 United Nations Games. Not Only a Chess Champion, Perpetual is the Founder of @promotingqueens, an Outreach Program Dedicated to Empowering Girls Through Chess.
